Silicon + Sea Launch Party

When I started this business I never officially rang it in with a celebration. Life/events got busy and I didn't take time to plan my own! I had been coordinating with the amazingly talented Carlie Statsky to take some professional head shots of me and maybe some styled pieces. We got a date on the calendar and that's when it hit me. I'm going to style something, I'm going to put on a cute outfit... let's have a party!

siliconandsea0126.jpg

I reached out to some beloved vendors for assistance and they all pulled through in a major way, drumroll please......

Thank you to all of these fabulous people. I feel fortunate to know and work with you, #ittakesavillage

My best friends rolled into town and labored for an evening, getting everything up into my mom's beautiful tree house. My other set of bff's worked their butts off getting it all back down.

My husband took me to and fro and helped with every detail along the way, BLESS HIM. Evan is the other half of Silicon + Sea, behind the scenes status, setting things up and putting out fires when needed.

It was the most perfect evening, filled with family, best friends, clients (who are friends), good food, great music, FUN FUN FUN!

When going through the Bright Event Rental catalog I really wanted to pick pieces that represented my overall style but would also sync up with my mom's treehouse aesthetic. I give you-  nature inspired, boho-industrial.

Let's take a moment for the best dog ever. When Carlie arrived to photograph pre-event, he was so exited that wagged his tail so hard it split open. Blood everywhere, including Carlie's white pants, (I'M STILL SO SORRY CARLIE!!) We quickly fixed up his tail with medical tape and he acted as though nothing even happened.

What is Silicon + Sea? Great question, here is what I see it as:

We are a lifestyle brand  that specializes in big celebrations. We are doing the work to put love on the forefront of everything we create. We bring people together in any way you deem necessary. We live authentically and speak our truth while always leaving room for growth. We don't idolize money or pre-conceived notions on what things "should be" or what things "should look like." We respect your vision and hope to bring a piece of our own to your event. We love life, we love different, we love YOU.

The Chambers Wedding - 5/26/2013

Happy Anniversary to my love, thank you for doing this life with me, what an honor.

Our video can be found HERE.  Our wedding was featured twice:) On RocknRoll Bride and JDV.

A piece of our vows to each other below. "The Invitation" by Oriah.

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love
for your dream for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow if you have been opened
by life’s betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain mine or your own without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy mine or your own if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful to be realistic to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure yours and mine and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know  what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

To those who are featured here and not present in our life right now.... It's okay. We are okay and we hope you are okay. XOXO.

Science Fiction + Fantasy Party

Although I have done hundreds of corporate events as an employee at a tech company, I recently did my first one as Silicon + Sea. Together with the party host, we picked a theme that would be fun, likable and easy to get into costume for. I introduce to you - Science Fiction/ Fantasy Summer Soiree!

I won't lie, my least favorite types of books and movies are sci-fi and fantasy, (Harry Potter is the exception) so I had to do my research (thanks Pinterest!) After a few hours of "how the hell am I going to pull this off," I actually got excited for the endless opportunities these themes presented for decor. I relied on a few vendors to help me pull of the futuristic fairyland

After eating from the mac and cheese bar, dancing with the Elena Cruz to the dj stylings of Monique Coquilla, watching a custom movie reel, drinking from our themed bar menu;  everyone ended the night in the pool with a live mermaid.  Click through the pictures for some fun!

Guess what I was?

Holiday Decor for Under $100

Holiday Decor for Under $100

As a "twenty-something" newly married person, I don't have much in the way of holiday decor. I pulled down one box on December 1st and all that was in it were ornaments, ones given to my husband and I from our childhood. It was time to feel like and adult with real holiday decor that will grow over the years. By December 5th, my entire house was decorated, head to toe for under $100. Luckily, my house is small.

First off, think of colors that you love and don't mind seeing year after year. For me these are gold and silver. They are chic, shiny, and scream holiday glamour. I'm not super traditional so the less red and green for me, the better.

Next, think of a few words that you want people to think of when they walk into your house. Mine were, cozy, woodsy, chic. I immediately knew I needed to find mixed materials including wood. Cost Plus was my meca, here is what I came up with:

Glitter paper trees, I covered mine in LED lights.

"Oh Deer Sign"

Available at Target in the $1 bins!! In stores only along with a adorable banners and ornaments!

These were just a few of the pieces I added to my collection. Along with this; a golden burlap tree skirt, a ton of scented candles and beaded garlands from Crate and Barrel. Look around and stick to your theme. In order to keep it classy, less is more. Happy Holidays, hotties!

Affordable Wedding Tablescapes

I am a sucker for a great centerpiece. When planning events, it's a detail that can sometimes be overlooked. The budget gets tight and it is usually the first thing to be compromised. I know this because I dealt with it when planning my own wedding.

I wanted our dinner time to feel special, intimate, gorgeous. I had very little money to spend on making this atmosphere so I got thrifty.

Pick out a color scheme and concept that makes sense to you as a couple. For me it was simple, elegant, sexy. Simple was stated through live green moss I purchased from a florist. Elegant came through the gold table cloths we rented and the brass/ gold candelabras I thrifted from the Goodwill. Sexy was shown through the massive amounts of candles we lit at dusk. I pulled it off for under $200 and we had 10 tables.

from my wedding!

from my wedding!

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need elaborate, over the top, TALL, centerpieces. In fact, this becomes a blocker from mingling with other people at your table and your view of the bride and groom. Good news for budget babes like us.

My tips:

  • THRIFT! Goodwill is your new best friend. People drop off sets of matching pieces like vases, votives, even brand new candles.
  • If flowers are a must have for you, seek out local flower markets and ask your wedding coordinator or planner to assist with displaying them.
  • Succulents! I used these to fill in my tables along with the moss. They are extremely cost effective. Look up local nurseries or succulents dealers.
  • Candles. Buy in bulk on sites like Amazon, or even Ikea!
  • Lines. ARE EXPENSIVE. I was lucky enough to have a hookup but I know most people don't have that luxury. Depending on the tables you are using, you may not even need them. If you do, consider thrifting them, looking on Esty or if you have any talented friends, consider a fabric store. For an eclectic look, consider mixing and matching.

Why You Need Engagement Photos

Why You Need Engagement Photos

Being engaged were some of the most exciting times in my life. The world knows you are in love in a whole new way. No more boyfriend. This dude wants to marry me, and me, him.

Photos are the way to exhibit such love. You don't have to break your bank to make it happen. Contract a professional for an hour or less to shoot you in a spot that makes sense to your personalities. You may even know an awesome friend who would be willing to help.

This is the perfect time to wear what you want. This isn't your wedding day. Let these photos be fun, informal, exciting!

Here is what came about for us, after one hour behind the lens, just outside of downtown Willow Glen, CA.

Photos by Encarnacion Photography.

These photos are also a great way to extend your time of being engaged. It gives people a sneak peak of what is to come.  "Yes, we are planning our damn wedding, give us a second."

Use these photos for your "save the dates," Christmas cards, whatever!

You do you.

Xo,

Catherine
